Bacteria closes beach in Rogers Park

If you are afraid of E. coli infection, don’t go in the water on Hartigan Beach in Rogers Park.

The Chicago Park District has issued a swim advisory Sunday for Hartigan Beach, which is just off Pratt Avenue in Rogers Park. The advisory means that there is an increased risk of E. coli infection due to poor water quality, according to Chicago Breaking News.

Meanwhile, on the Michigan side of the lake, the National Weather Service is warning of a possibility of rip currents for much of the shoreline, Chicago Breaking News reports.

“Large waves along the shoreline will continue to result in a high risk of rip currents this morning… With conditions for the development of rip currents becoming less favorable this afternoon,” according to the NWS site.

The weather service also has issued a small craft advisory for much of the Michigan side of the lake within five miles of shore, Chicago Breaking News reports.

A gale watch for much of the center of the lake is scheduled to go into effect Monday evening and remain until Tuesday morning, Chicago Breaking News reports.
