A man died just blocks away from Loyola University Chicago’s Water Tower Campus Thursday morning after falling down a smokestack at the top of the Intercontinental Hotel on Michigan Avenue.
Nicholas Wieme, 23, of Chicago was taking pictures from the roof of the hotel when he fell down a smokestack around 1 a.m. He was just two feet away from the 42-floor drop to the basement.
Over 100 Chicago firefighters assisted in his rescue.
