iPhone GPS tracks suspected thief in Rogers Park

Chicago police used an iPhone’s GPS system to track and arrest a suspected phone thief in Rogers Park.

Bond was set at $450,000 for a man arrested after police tracked a stolen iPhone from the victim, a woman walking in the Wicker Park neighborhood, to the suspect, caught in a Rogers Park alley.
Eddie Rushing, 38, of the 9700 block of South Brennan Avenue, was charged with one count of armed robbery with a dangerous weapon, police News Affairs Officer Amina Greer said.
On Tuesday, Cook County Judge James Brown ordered Rushing held on $450,000 bond, Cook County State’s Attorney’s office spokesman Andy Conklin said.
Rushing is accused of stealing an iPhone from a 32-year-old woman walking in the 1600 block of North Oakley Avenue about 6:30 p.m. Monday, police said. He approached the woman, pulled out a knife and demanded her purse and phone.
The woman gave her belongings to the robber, who fled on foot, police said. The woman called police, who tracked her iPhone to an alley in the 1600 block of West Juneway Terrace, police said.
The woman identified Rushing as the culprit, and the knife allegedly used in the attack was recovered along with the woman’s possessions, police said.
