Dalai Lama visit will limit traffic, parking at Loyola
Posted by riannecoale on April 24, 2012
Expect traffic delays and parking restrictions Thursday on and around Loyola University Chicago‘s Lake Shore Campus due to an all-day visit from the His Holiness the XIV Dalai Lama.
The Dalai Lama is slated to speak at Loyola’s Lake Shore Campus in Rogers Park at 1:30 p.m., but parking and traffic restrictions will be in place much of the day.
For example, current Loyola ID’s must be presented all day on Thursday in order to enter the parking facilities.
Here are further details from The Dalai Lama Coordinating Committee:
We wanted to give you some information related to parking, as well as ticket availability, for the visit of His Holiness the XIV Dalai Lama, who will be on the Lake Shore Campus all day on Thursday, April 26.
Parking: Due to the size and complexity of the events on April 26 (including security procedures and protocols that will be in place that day), there will be significant traffic delays on and around the Lake Shore Campus. We urge you to avoid driving on this day and to please use public transportation if possible.
In order to assure adequate parking for students arriving to classes on April 26, a current Loyola ID must be presented after 10 p.m. on Wednesday, April 25, and all day on Thursday, April 26, in order to enter Loyola parking facilities. Individuals who do not present a Loyola ID will not be allowed to park in a University lot during that time. As always, overnight parking is not allowed on campus.
On April 26, in addition to the Main Parking Structure and Fordham Garage, Loyola students, faculty, and staff are also allowed to park in the Albion Lot (1215 W. Albion) and West Loyola Lot (1236–38 W. Loyola) by presenting a current Loyola ID. Please contact the parking office directly with any questions at 773.508.7036 or email@example.com.
Tickets: We have learned from the Tibetcenter that they still have tickets available for purchase at their morning (9:30–11:30 a.m.) program featuring the Dalai Lama. If you would like to purchase a ticket for the Tibetcenter’s morning program (held in Gentile Arena), please visit www.tibetcenterchicago.org for details regarding their event.
