Loyola University Chicago Campus Safety is warning students to lock their dorm room doors following a recent burglary in one of the residence halls.
Here is the alert from Campus Safety:
Campus Safety is writing to advise you of a burglary that occurred in Mertz Hall, on the Lake Shore Campus. A student reported that he left his room for a couple of minutes and when he returned, several items of value were missing. With this in mind, please remember the following safety tips:
- Always lock your room, especially when you leave (even if it’s only for a few minutes)
- If you see someone acting suspicious (i.e. going door-to-door trying door handles), contact Campus Safety at 773.508.6039
- Be aware of individuals trying to use your access into secure areas (i.e. piggy-backing on your swipe-card entrance); please contact Campus Safety if you believe someone accessed an area that they shouldn’t be in
- Maintain a list of serial numbers for electronics and valuables, and keep that list in a safe place
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Campus Safety at 773.508.6039.
Sincerely,
Robert Fine
Director, Department of Campus Safety
