Two pedestrians were hit Friday afternoon by a car that was traveling the wrong direction on Michigan Avenue, according to officials.

Here’s the full story from the Chicago Tribune:

Two people were injured late this afternoon when they were struck in a crosswalk by a vehicle being driven in the wrong direction on Michigan Avenue, officials said.

The accident happened about 5:13 p.m. on the 200 block of North Michigan Avenue, said Police News Affairs Officer Darryl Baety.

Preliminary reports said a woman, described as in her 80s, was driving southbound in the northbound lanes on Michigan Avenue when she struck two pedestrians who were crossing the street, Baety said.

After striking a 31-year-old woman and a 35-year-old man, she also struck a vehicle in the northbound lane, and that vehicle was pushed into another vehicle stopped behind it, he said.

Chicago Fire Department paramedics responded to the accident and took both pedestrians toNorthwestern Memorial Hospital, one in serious-to-critical condition and the other in good condition, according to a spokesman.

The woman in her 80s also was taken to Northwestern, but her condition was not immediately available, Baety said.

The two drivers of the other vehicles that were struck declined to go to the hospital and were treated at the scene.

As of 6:30 p.m., it was not clear if the woman was issued a citation for the accident, officials said.
