Chicago Police have charged a 41-year-old man with one felony count of aggravated robbery after Evanston police said he allegedly robbed an Evanston cellular phone store and tried to flee on a CTA Red Line train, just blocks from Loyola University Chicago’s Lake Shore Campus.

Here’s the story from TribLocal:

Police responded to a report of an armed robbery at about 11:25 a.m. Feb. 15 at Robby’s Communications in the 300 block of Howard Street. Once on the scene, police obtained a description of the alleged offender and began searching the area.

Witnesses told police the alleged offender possibly boarded a southbound CTA Red line train at the Howard Street station, authorities said.

Working with Chicago police and CTA personnel, Evanston police were able to stop the train at the Thorndale station, at which time officers searched the cars and found a subject matching the alleged offender’s description, police said.

Police identified the alleged robber as Danny Wicker of Chicago.

Police said Wicker entered Robby’s Communications and asked the clerk some questions before leaving the store. He allegedly came back a short time later, approached the clerk with his hand in his coat pocket and implied he possessed a weapon, police said.

Wicker allegedly ordered the sales clerk to open the cash register and then took the clerk to the back of the store and ordered that clerk stay in the bathroom, police said. He allegedly cleared the register of money and left the store, police said.

When arrested, police allegedly found $410 in Wicker’s possession, but no weapon, said police Cmdr. Tom Guenther.

Wicker is expected to appear in court on Feb. 23 in Skokie.
