Carjacked taxi collides with school bus in Rogers Park

A high-speed chase between police and a carjacked taxi that started in suburban Des Plaines ended Wednesday morning in Chicago’s Rogers Park neighborhood when the cab collided with a school bus and then a pole, the Chicago Sun-Times is reporting.

A Rosemont Elite Taxi minivan cab was carjacked from a driver sometime after 6 a.m. in northwest suburban Des Plaines, according to an employee, who confirmed the vehicle is theirs. The driver was not injured, he said.
The taxi continued east towards Evanston and a spokesman for the Northwestern University police said the pursuit went through their campus about 6:45 a.m.
The taxi continued north into the city where, about 6:55 a.m., the taxi clipped the front end of the school bus near Clark and Columbia avenues. The crash happened when the taxi came around the the bus as it was turning left and partially tore off the front bumper of the bus.
The taxi then hit a nearby pole where the motorist jumped out and Chicago Police officers ran after him and captured him about 7 a.m. One person from the school bus appeared to be injured and was being treated by emergency officials.
The incident involving a taxi cab started in northwest suburban Des Plaines sometime shortly before 6 a.m., according to Des Plaines police.
