Cell phone store to join Mexican grill at Water Tower Campus

An AT&T Store is coming to the new retail space at Loyola University Chicago’s Water Tower Campus, making it the second retailer the university has signed up for the storefronts on Chicago Avenue.

A sign in the window of 24 E. Chicago Ave. reads: “AT&T Retail Store Coming Soon.” It will join a Qdoba Mexican Grill restaurant being completed for the space at 20 E. Chicago Ave.

Qdoba Mexican Grill is scheduled to open July 19, and workers were toiling feverishly Thursday afternoon in the summer heat to meet the deadline.

The AT&T Store and Qdoba are part of the new retail space between Wabash and State streets that is part of Loyola’s retail development attached to the Corboy Law Center.

Transformers 3 filming to tie up Chicago traffic

Visitors to Loyola University Chicago’s Water Tower Campus should be aware that their commute could be disrupted by the filming of the action movie Transformers 3.

Crews will be filming Friday-Sunday on the Michigan Avenue Bridge and an aerial photography unit will be flying close to the Trump Tower at Wabash Avenue and the Chicago River, according to Chicago Breaking News.

Helicopters will be used for aerial photography and stunt parachutists for brief periods from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. both Saturday and Sunday, Chicago Breaking News reports.

Michigan Avenue will be closed from Ontario Street to Wacker Drive beginning on Thursday at 8 p.m. until 5 a.m. Monday,  officials said.
 
Lower Michigan Ave will be closed from Lower Wacker Drive to Hubbard Street from 8 p.m. Friday through 5 a.m. Monday, according to Chicago Breaking News.

As filming continues vehicles will be diverted at Ontario Street and detoured to Clark Street. Ohio Street will be open to east and northbound traffic at Michigan Avenue, Chicago Breaking News reports.

Michigan Avenue northbound traffic will be diverted at Randolph Street and detoured to Dearborn Street and Lake Street will be open for local traffic only. Businesses and garages between Wacker Drive and Randolph Street will be accessible. Upper East North Water Street and City Front Plaza drive will be open to local traffic only, officials said.

Michigan Avenue sidewalks will remain open to foot traffic between Ohio and Illinois Streets and stores and buildings will remain open. To cross the Chicago River, pedestrians will need to access the Wabash and Columbus Street bridges, officials said.
