Chicago police are investigating an accident in which a 10-year-old boy was killed in Rogers Park in a crash involving a suspected drunken driver.
Calvin Santos was walking between two parked SUVs early Saturday when a driver allegedly crashed into one of the vehicles, pinning the boy between the SUVS, Chicago Breaking News reports.
The accident occurred at 5:45 a.m. in the 6900 block of North Ashland Boulevard after Bulmaro Santos dropped Calvin and his 3-year-old sister, Liliana, off at their aunt’s house, police told Chicago Breaking News. Santos was dropping his children off before driving to his caddying job at a suburban golf course.
The boy’s father said he parked on the west side of Ashland Boulevard and his children jumped from his car to go into their aunt’s house. Santos said he heard the crash and saw that his son was crushed by the two SUVs on the east side of the street, Chicago Breaking News reports.
Calvin Santos was taken to St. Francis Hospital in Evanston, where he was declared dead at 7:41 a.m. Family and a Chicago Public Schools spokeswoman said he was in third grade at Daniel Boone Elementary, 6710 N. Washtenaw Ave.
Police said the driver was being questioned by investigators with the police department’s major accident investigation unit, according to Chicago Breaking News.
