The University Libraries announced that John and Terese Mulkern Terry, both Loyola alums of the class of 1959, have made a $1 million donation. John Terry, a business major, and Terese Terry, a theater major, met at Loyola more than 50 years ago. Their generous gift will establish two endowment funds: to purchase electronic resources in business and communications, and to establish a lecture series managed by the University Libraries.
The Sisters of Charity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, also known as the BVMs, recently awarded a $4,000 grant to the Women and Leadership Archives. The seed grant is intended to help digitize a portion of the Mundelein College audiovisual collection. The digitization project, which focuses on the most important and fragile items in the AV collection, will be executed this fall. As soon as possible, selective short excerpts from the digitized material will be made available through the University Libraries digital collections (ContentDM).
The University Libraries are also recipients of some rare and valuable book donations. The libraries recently received a copy of the Polish language edition of the 1529 Statutes of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, donated by Anthony Rudis. The statutes were the first code of laws written in Europe since Roman Law.
The University Libraries also received two first editions of Mark Twain’s Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn from Hunt Unger of Evanston.
