CTA plans on shortening the amount of time used to deep-clean buses to save money for its budget.
With the recession and the layoffs of many workers, the CTA plans another wave of cuts to shore up its $96 million budget deficit. “Bus operations is testing out some adjustments to make the best use of the resources available,” CTA spokeswoman Sheila Gregory told the Chicago Sun-Times.
The CTA recently asked its unions to accept pay reductions to restore service and jobs, which they refused.
Local 241 President Darrell Jefferson and the Rev. Jesse Jackson met with U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood on Wednesday to discuss the need for more transit funding, and to avoid more delays in service and the deduction on cleaning hours.
